Dragana Mutavdžić Pavlović rođena je 24. lipnja 1976. u Osijeku gdje je 1995. maturirala na Tehnološkoj školi Ruđera Boškovića. Iste je godine upisala Fakultet kemijskog inženjerstva i tehnologije (FKIT), gdje je 1998. dobila Rektorovu nagradu za najbolji pismeni studentski rad Korozijska ispitivanja biomaterijala koji je izradila na Zavodu za elektrokemiju pod mentorstvom prof. dr. sc. Mirjane Metikoš-Huković. U rujnu 2000. diplomirala je temom Izolacija stroncija iz kompleksnih matrica kromatografskim metodama pod mentorstvom prof. dr. sc. Štefice Cerjan-Stefanović. U studenom iste godine zapošljava se na Zavodu za analitičku kemiju Fakulteta kemijskog inženjerstva i tehnologije kao znanstvena novakinja i upisuje poslijediplomski studij Inženjerska kemija. Magistarski rad Priprava kromatografskog uzorka pesticida ekstrakcijom čvrstom fazom obranila je u veljači 2004., a doktorsku disertaciju Moderni postupci priprave uzoraka za kromatografsku analizu „novih“ zagađivala u okolišu u ožujku 2007. Oba je rada izradila pod mentorstvom prof. dr. sc. Marije Kaštelan-Macan. Nakon obrane disertacije 2007. postaje znanstveni suradnik, 2008. izabrana je u znanstveno-nastavno zvanje docentice (nakon čega sudjeluje u nastavi i nositeljica je više kolegija iz područja analitičke kemije), 2013. u znanstveno-nastavno zvanje izvanredne profesorice (19. 3. 2013.), 2018. u znanstveno-nastavno zvanje redovite profesorice (12. 6. 2018.), a 2023. u znanstveno-nastavno zvanje redovite profesorice u trajnom izboru (10. 10. 2023.). Stečena znanja rado prenosi studentima i uvodi ih u znanstveno-istraživački rad što je rezultiralo mentorstvom 3 studentska rada nagrađena Rektorovom nagradom te 6 radova nagrađenih Dekanovom nagradom. Bila je mentorica 36 završnih radova, 24 diplomska rada i 6 disertacija.
Područje znanstvenog interesa Dragane Mutavdžić Pavlović je analitička kemija okoliša s naglaskom na separacijske tehnike u kemijskoj analizi, posebice postupci ekstrakcije čvrstom fazom (SPE) te raspršenja matice uzorka kroz čvrstu fazu (MSPD) tijekom priprave uzorka i izolacije analita te kromatografski separacijski procesi, s naglaskom na tekućinsku kromatografiju (tankoslojna kromatografija i tekućinska kromatografija visoke djelotvornosti). Tijekom dosadašnjeg rada objavila je 3 poglavlja u znanstvenim knjigama, 2 poglavlja u sveučilišnom udžbeniku Analitika okoliša, 58 znanstvenih radova u časopisima zastupljenima u bazama podataka WoSCC i Scopus, 14 radova u recenziranim knjigama radova uglavnom međunarodnih skupova te 3 nerecenzirana rada s međunarodnih skupova. Aktivno je sudjelovala na više od 60 znanstvenih skupova (međunarodnih i domaćih) s više od 65 posterskih priopćenja i 7 predavanja.
